Not too long ago between the year 1918 and 1919 the influenza pandemic claimed more than 500,000+ deaths in the United States alone, not to mention countless lives globally.
When we look back in history, back in the year 1918 and 1919 the medical professionals and authorities had no idea what the influenza flu was. Therefore, the term influenza was not even introduced at this time. The term virus and influenza was not considered to be associated with one another until approximately 20 years later.
Similar to the Covid-19 pandemic government mandates we see today between 2020 and 2021 governments back in history began implementing isolation rules. Like today, people were asked to stop going out and congregating in large crowds and to avoid indoor activities. Like the Covid-19, the influenza virus was thought to transmit quicker indoors and within large population congregations.
The devastation of the influenza flu did cost more lives than human life lost during World War 1. It was apparent that were no cures, vaccines and or medical treatments at the time to fight the disease. Therefore, mandates were in place similar to our government mandates in 2020 and 2021 requesting social distancing, isolation and quarantining to help at least stop the speedy spread of the virus.
It appears in 2020 and 2021 history does repeat itself. Mankind still has not learned lessons from our past. Public figures, politician etc. took too long to react to the influenza pandemic of 2018 and 2019 putting their political careers above all else. Today we are experiencing the exact same scenarios by not initially taking the Covid-19 pandemic serious enough until the spread became imaginable and more difficult to treat in an orderly fashion.
Similar to the way we looked the other way in 2018 and 2019 during the influenza flu pandemic, now in 2020 and 2021 the COVID-19 virus could have been potentially avoided, or at minimum controlled in such a way as to avoid a nationwide pandemic.
Now that we have a better understanding of flus, viruses and the affiliation between the two, we now have alternative medical options and treatments along with medical experience to combat such pandemics such as influenza, bird flu, Covid-19 and much more.
